Compare Airline Tickets is much easier to do with the use of our computers and other online technology.  There are major websites that specialize in this type of technology and a few of these sites would include, TravelZoo, CheapFlights, FareCompare, BookingBuddy, Expedia, Travelocity and many others.  These flights all have the same basic function, to allow you to see competing airline flights, ticket prices and related information in one nice package.

I use many of these sites when I am looking for airline tickets because I want to see if I am missing any operator in a market that I am not aware of, or that has lowered their prices from past historical highs.  The trick to finding and booking cheap airline tickets is knowing what all the prices are in the market that you are researching.

If you are flying domestic then get a few different prices for airlines going to the same place but maybe through different gateway hubs and at different times and things like that.  Sometimes you can save a lot by taking a flight that stops once instead of a non-stop flight.  Usually, these are cheaper flights followed by late night and very early morning flights that get the airline started in the morning or later at night on their final flights of the day.  Booking out will always help save money on any flights and tickets.

Things you need to look for when you do Compare Airline tickets is how long the flight time is.  Some flights can have long layovers and you want to check this.  If you need to get somewhere quick, watch the total trip time.  Next see if the flights are non-stop or flights that have at least one or more stops in between you and your destination.  Then look to see what type of aircraft you are flying in.  I try and stay away from the small express jet types.  They are small and they usually land far away from the main parts and terminals of the airport I am heading to.  If I can, I will always try to book the larger jets when I am flying domestic.

There are some times that the cheapest airline ticket is not the best airline ticket for me.  For many different reasons I have found that once I look at the total time of a trip, how many stops and the type of aircraft, the cheapest flight tickets that are compared, might not work for me for the above reasons.  The I have found that the cheapest airline ticket being compared worked just fine for me because I had the extra time for the longer layover or for other reasons.

I am very careful to watch out for overnight layovers in airports that will just drain you.  You definitely have to watch out for this when coming back from Hawaii and going West to East.  When a booking engine has some type in RED or shows to be important, please read it and do not ignore it because it is telling you something very important about your trip.
