Cheap Airlines are still around all though most of the airlines are offering less amenities and still trying to charge more.  The good cheap airlines can be found anywhere in the world now and you can find them for both domestic and international airline travel.  Some of the many good Cheap Airlines that come to mind immediately are Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, Ryan Air, EasyJet, Virgin Blue to name just a few.

Cheap Airlines does not mean that the engines are falling off or that you have to fill the plane up with gas.  It just means that these types of airlines are not going to be big on offering frills and extras.  They want to keep your prices down and at the same time earn a reasonable profit on their investment.  Cheap Airlines will usually offer short haul routes where they can get in quickly and get out quicker so that they can keep earning money on their airplanes and the investments in hardware.

Some of the Cheap Airlines will be cheaper than others.  Southwest Airlines does not charge for extra bags or for that fact, for any bags checked when traveling up to certain weight restrictions.  Others are charging for the first or second bags checked and these are some of the new fancy ways for them to make more revenue while keeping their basic fare price down.   The bag charges can really hurt the families and groups that are going somewhere for extended time.

When traveling on any of the Cheap Airlines, please do not expect to get free movies, free alcohol or full service lunches.  What you should expect is to pay for any set of head-phones to listen to the music or movies, pay $3 or $4 bucks for a drink and if you think you will be hungry on the flight, bring a meal.  Most airports have food service facilities where you can buy both light and heavy meals to take with you on board.

Some of the major legacy carriers will charge for drinks, head phones and meals if you are flying in the coach or economy class section of their plane.  If you are flying in their first class or business class category, you should expect that all these types of amenities will be provided to you without any additional fees or costs.

Remember, even the Cheap Airlines charge for airline tickets so if you are going somewhere, try to book your trip as soon as possible before the prices get higher.  Think about waiting till the mid part of the week to research the prices and to book since it is sometimes cheaper to book airline tickets during the mid week period.  If you ever find a price that you are happy with, book it and never look back.  The worst thing to do is find a good price and think you will find a better one and then when you check back it has gone up a couple hundred dollars or more.
